I'm a historian of the modern Middle East at the University of Toronto, where I am a Senior Fellow at the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History, and a Manuscript Editor at the Dictionary of Canadian Biography.

My first book, Lightning through the Clouds: ‘Izz al-Din al-Qassam and the Making of the Modern Middle East, is a social biography of the legendary anti-colonial rebel and Ottoman-Syrian cleric, 'Izz al-Din al-Qassam. It was published in May 2020 by the University of Texas Press.

I completed a PhD at McGill University in 2016, an MA from McGill’s Institute of Islamic Studies, and a BA from the University of Toronto's Visual Studies and Religion programs.
